Clear as a Bell
- Project 1
- (a) Create a timeline showing the history of the telephone from Alexander Graham Bell's first patent, March 7, 1876, to today's fax modems and Internet connections.
- (b) Develop a communications vocabulary list including terms from the early history of the telephone up to today's systems.
- Project 2
- Design an Alexander Graham Bell family scrapbook. Include significant events in his life and put captions below them. If you can't find actual pictures, draw your own.
- Project 3
- Make a series of posters showing the most important inventions of the 19th century with their modern counterparts.
- Project 4
- Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone as a result of his interest in deafness. What aids are available today to help the deaf "hear"?
- Project 5
- Investigate the controversy between American Sign Language, lip reading, and other means of communication between deaf and hearing people.
- Project 6
- Alexander Graham Bell developed some unusual kites. Find out more about kite-making and either design our own on paper or make one that can actually fly. (Compare Bell's kite research to Benjamin Franklin's.)
